Database

The volunteer database is key to the success of VIPER® as it allows parades to take place which are not normally possible. This is due to the broad ranges of appearances available on the volunteer database.

The National Video Identification Database as provided by the National VIPER® Bureau, consists of over 43,000 moving volunteer images as of January 2017. These images are utilised everyday by police forces in the UK to produce video identification parades which are compliant with relevant legislation.

The National VIPER® Bureau employs a dedicated database team who are responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the volunteer database.

This team ensures that there are sufficient volunteer images which represent all of the appearances required by VIPER® users. The VIPER® Volunteer Database reflects the diverse appearances of people within the UK including; age, gender, ethnicity, build, hair colour, hair style and even facial hair where applicable.
