Independent third party academic research has been conducted to identify if video identification provides a suitable basis for making accurate visual identifications. The result of such research was factored into the development and rollout of the VIPER® service.
The academic research also demonstrated no statistical difference between the ability of a witness to identify a suspect in a conventional live line up when compared to a video ID parade. Therefore the use of VIPER® to promote witness care did not impact on the accuracy of identifications.
