The National VIPER® Bureau prides itself in the provision of the very highest quality of images to utilise within video ID parades. This is supported by a continuous programme of enhancement for the National Video Identification Database. This database is owned, hosted and managed by the National VIPER® Bureau. VIPER® are the sole provider of this service following a decision made by the National Police Improvement Agency in 2006. Since that time the National VIPER® Bureau has taken the database from strength to strength by introducing additional volunteers, improving the search criteria and also the depth of information stored to assist users.
The service is unique within the police service in that it is owned and managed by a single force on behalf of the UK Police. This has allowed the service to develop without the commercial constraints which would otherwise apply to a third party supplier. This leaves the focus totally on the user requirements to keep the charges of the service as low as possible. The VIPER®equipment, procedures and IT systems have been professionally designed on a bespoke basis to meet the requirements of users for the preparation of video identification parades to the very highest standards.
